I can ask for characters to have deeper internal lives and motivations beyond their romantic utility in a dude-centered narrative. I can ask for those things and you can respond "So what?"

I praised this movie. It is a "quality" movie, to use your term. It is quality by many metrics, including my favorite metric, What John DeVore Likes.
