That said: I sympathize with addicts because I am one. That doesn’t mean I easily absolve them of the pain they cause. I just think it’s important in movies about addicts to show the ups as well as the downs. Sandler is a faithless danger-loving freak in this movie and he gets off on it. Addicts are almost always surprised by rock bottom when it happens.
