Hi Mari, Thanks for reading. 'The Lost Daughter' is a rich, intense, thoughtful movie that is, yes, about motherhood, but also regret and aging and youth and obsession. And I did find it sinister, which is one reason I loved the movie. Why does Leda do what she does? Is Nina's family truly dangerous? Is Leda hiding something? These are all mysteries and the climax of the movie is certainly gripping. Gyllenhaal directed an uneasy movie that isn't comfortable in its skin, like Leda, who I point out is a hero, at least to me.
